DUE-0442702: Topic Maps-Based Courseware to Support Undergraduate Computer Science Courses (2005-2007)

This project is aimed at developing concept-based, ontology-aware courseware in support of learning tasks in Web-assisted or independent learning courses. Such courseware implies organizing learning content around a well-structured network of domain concepts and relationships (with sound ontological commitment), which permits using that network for classification, description, and indexing of external learning resources

The main goals of the project are to prove that the concept-based organisation is an efficient form of structuring digital learning content in SMET disciplines and especially in Computer Science, and the emerging ISO standard - Topic Maps - is adequate for developing efficiently searchable and reusable educational materials on the Web.

The project final products will include established Topic Maps-based learning materials for several modules of undergraduate CS courses. We will use them in local Web-assisted courses to assess their impact on student learning and courseware authoring.
